Not all warranty coverage is the same. Some parts have a 'limited lifetime warranty,' but the fine print excludes labor or covers the replacement part only. That sounds fine until you spend three hours labor on the first part, then get a free part that needs another three hours.

Here's something vendors won't tell you: a warranty is only as good as the return process. Does the supplier pay return shipping? Do they require a diagnostic report? Do they cover labor? I've had a warranty replacement cost us nearly as much as the original part because we had to pull the component and ship it back before they'd authorize anything.

When I compare parts, I write the warranty cap into my total cost calculation.
